The Story
White sage (Salvia apiana) is native to Southern California and northern Baja California.
This sun-loving, drought-tolerant shrub attracts many pollinators. White sage is also culturally significant to many Indigenous California communities. Local populations of this plant are threatened by poaching, climate change, and habitat destruction. These seeds are ethically sourced and do not contribute to declining wild populations.
To protect native wildflower populations, please plant these seeds only in residential landscapes and garden settings. These seeds are not intended for use in wilderness areas, nature preserves, parks, or postburn landscapes. Thank you for supporting responsible stewardship of our natural ecosystems.
Growing instructions: For best results, soak seeds for 24 hours prior to planting and sow them outdoors in fall or early winter. Press seeds into soil and cover with a thin layer of soil or compost, planting no more than one-quarter inch deep. Keep soil moist while seeds sprout, usually two to three weeks. Young plants need regular watering until they are established; winter rain can help supplement the watering schedule.
Plant information:
Sun: full sun
Water: low, once established
Habit: upright, mounding shrub
Height: up to 5 feet
Spread: 4 to 8 feet
